Proper 20-gauge wads. Hello all. I've been loading 12-gauge shells for a while now and am looking to start loading 20-Gauge shells. I have dumpster dived for 20-gauge hulls and have found several hundred of the Federal 20-gauge target hulls. Most of them are of the newer style with the plastic base wad, but I have over a hundred with the paper ...You can load a 3-3/4dram 1-1/4oz load with the wads you list and Herco is good for that application. In the 20ga for AACF cases I like to use Herco with the Rem SP wad for a 2-1/2dram 1oz load for 1155fps. With STS cases I like to use Blue Dot with the Rem SP20 wad for the same 1oz load of 2-1/2dram 1155fps.Load the Winchester12 ga paper Rangers with either a Remington SP12 or the Winchester WAA12R wad. Because of the very high base wad you will need a very short wad. For the 20 ga Winchester Rangers I find that the Remington SP20 wad works well with 15 grains of Unique or Universal. There is plenty of info available for the Federal papersRunning low on wads and as much as I like the RXP20's I think it's time to move on. They are hard to find and Remington seems to be awfully proud of their product. Load is 20 gauge, 7/8 oz skeet loads at 1200 fps. Alliant 20/28 powder, Remington STS hulls, Fio 616 primers. I have to go look up my notes but I believe I'm using 15.4 gr powder.

I also loaded them in the Old Rem RXP cases with the CCI209 primer and everything else the same. This load was at 1165fps, 9,800psi. These loads came straight out of the IMR manual and I loaded them for over 25yrs. No this wad isn't the same as the SP20 wad. The SP20 wad is a 1oz wad and the W23678 wad was a 7/8oz wad.
